The summer months can be and should be filled with FUN! Rest, relaxation, and time with family and friends are all important, but there are other ways to make the most of the summertime. In this blog we will reiterate the concept of balance and making sure you’re spending the summer months wisely.
Work and Play
Most students are busy and over-scheduled during the school months so it completely makes sense that students would want some time to rest and relax. We get it! Make sure to plan for those family vacations and spending time with friends. However, there are other important things to do over the summer months. Whether it’s getting a job, doing community service, attending a summer course or even going to summer camp, make sure you are spending your time in a productive way as well.
Why it Matters
One big reason for being productive over the summer months is because colleges will notice. Colleges care about your extracurricular activities, including jobs, volunteering experiences, sports, clubs, etc. Having things to list on your activity resume is important. The Common Application allows students to list and describe 10 activities. It’s great to be able to fill all or most of those spaces. Think about the things you will list and make sure your activities are balanced.
